Circa 1870 – 1890; a solid piece of antique furniture crafted in Europe during the Victorian era. Appears to be stained, with the original finish still present and undisturbed.

The piece appears to maintain its original stain and finish; never restored (to our knowledge). To date, we've opted not to refinish this piece, as the rustic appearance seemed to be part of its charm and effectively maintains the original finish.

As purchased from the Antique Guild (formerly located at Dyer Rd., Santa Ana, CA) in approx. 1977 – 1978.

The Antique Guild wrote an inventory number on the reverse side of the piece before it was purchased: WOD01 – 454 (or 45A?). The number “28-“ is also referenced; last sold at Antique Guild soon after being imported from European sources (a noted origin for a majority of the company’s historic antique furnishings).

The piece measures approx. 24.75” long; with four metal hooks with ornate embossed metal figure (at center) where attached. Appears to have been turned from a single piece of oak; and then cut down the center to provide for crafting two identical pieces). The design features original eye-hooks for hanging on the wall. Appears to represent a male figure with mutton chops, thick moustache and beard as was the custom in Europe during this era. One might even say that the figure could have been inspired by Santa himself!

Minor signs of wear; though the piece has been nicely maintained for more than a century.

Metal features maintain a patina that we have left “as found” since our purchase in the 1970’s… adding to the provenance of the piece. We’ll leave considerations for possible restoration to the new owners after consultation with a qualified expert in preservation of antiques.

Not intended as a rack for heavy coats (based on the original eye hooks); but appears to have been designed for lighter hats or scarves.

$75.00 cash only. Local buyers only; available for local pick-up in NW Bakersfield (near Coffee Road and Meany); at mutually agreed public location. Shipping not available for this listing.
