Fair Housing Testers are trained volunteers with a sincere interest in civil rights and a commitment to equal housing opportunity. Testers receive a stipend, typically $25-$35 per test, as well as reimbursement for mileage and test-related expenses.
A volunteer Fair Housing Tester is someone who poses as a renter in order to help collect evidence in GBLA Fair Housing Law Project's investigations. As a Fair Housing Tester, you will meet with real estate agents, landlords, or building managers to inquire about the availability of housing, view available rental units, and write a factual report of your experience.
To become a Fair Housing Tester you complete the following:
Meet with our Fair Housing Investigations Coordinator.
Complete a brief application and criminal background check.
Attend one of our Fair Housing Tester Training workshops.
Complete a "practice" test and test report.
Upon successful completion of all four steps, you will be approved to receive a $35.00 stipend.
